A recent poll was taken by business professionals involved in franchising.
The results reveal the top five franchises currently:
1. Subway - Fred DeLuca and family friend Peter Buck created the concept of Subway at only 17 years old in 1965. The concept started off of only a thousand dollar loan. After many struggles, they quickly flourished and became a standard in the food industry. Subway offers a healthy alternative to greasy fast food and has become increasingly popular as well as profitable. Subway operates franchises in the US and several countries.
2. Dunkin Donuts - William Rosenburg in 1946 founded Industrial Luncheon Services. It started off as a company that delivered meals and snacks to workers in Boston. The success made William open a doughnut shop called Open Kettle. Two years later after much success, William changed the name to Dunkin Donuts. Dunkin Donuts now serves beverages, doughnuts, sandwiches, coffee, fruit drinks, and bagels to over 40 countries.
3. 7-Eleven Inc. -The name came from the hours of operations at its stores. 7-Eleven, which started from a Dallas ice company, now serves over 6 million customers a day. The stores operate in US and Canada.
4. Jackson Hewitt Tax Service - Began in 1960, Jackson Hewitt is a full service tax service, providing year-round service. They offer specialization in processing federal and state computertized preparation. Jackson Hewitt began franchising in 1986, ironically the year that the IRS introduced electronic filing of tax returns.
5. The UPS Store- Concept began in 1980. Mail Boxes Etc. became a subsidiary of UPS in the year 2001. The company now franchises The UPS Store. Locations provide shipping, packaging, print services, copy, mailbox services, and much more. The locations include US locations and locations in over 40 countries.
